Breakfast thieves has got to be one of my favourite brunch spots by far. The environment, the setting, the menu, the area, all of it is just perfect! It's hidden in a lane along Smith St in Fitzroy, one of the best eating region in Melbourne and is a must try.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by one of the waitress and given a seat on the high tables. My friend, Michelle and I both ordered our cappuccinos and while I had 'the Legend', she had the 'My PB & J' and I must say, they were two of the greatest choices we've made. As I quote, Michelle reckons it's "like Masterchef food" The Legend which consists of spicy baked eggs with spanish chorizo, mushrooms, green peas, feta, served with herbed garlic toast was much more appealing than the baked eggs from the Little Mule. It was rich with flavour although quite spicy and a lot more filling but it gets better, The PB&J was mouthfuls of exploding flavour. Brioche French toast with peanut butter soil, candied bacon, raspberry jelly and lemon curd, legitimately the best combination I've ever had. Not too sweet, not too bland, the right texture and just perfectly presented. Who ever thought of this one, I tip my hat to you.
The cafe itself had the cutest layout too: plants, cage hanging lights, blackboards and brick walls. (I think that's becoming a common trend with all my favourites but really, how can you not comment on the interior)
My PB & J $17.50 |
The Legend $18 |
